One of those films, like so many, where the characters don’t do things, the things do the characters, even though we are really pushed to think it’s the other way around. It makes me want to use annoying words like “earned.” It’s hard to get the balance of character development (whatever that means, but you can feel when it’s not there) and the jawdropping plot bulletpoints you want to hit right when you’ve also chosen every major theme or controversial…

Why must it always be like “this is not fun and the vibes are very self-conscious but I have to hand it to them… they found a cool tone!
