This was an amazing experience on Broadway (I was lucky enough to catch it twice) and the filmed version very nearly captures the same magic, though the nature of adapting it to film can’t quite convey how astonishing the stagecraft was in person.
As a general rule I don’t even like A Christmas Carol but I sure do like this one.

i had a cozy nostalgic feeling right at the beginning when it reminded me of the Larkin/Bass Hobbit cartoon, but that faded quickly. the plot is an overstuffed drag (especially in the first half), the only character in it with a shred of charisma or believability is the bad guy, and it's animated in this weird uncanny valley that somehow feels both too low-budget and too high-tech.

I think I experienced time dilation while watching this movie; its three-hour runtime felt more like six. Been a very long time since I was this tempted to walk out of a movie and look up the ending on Wikipedia.
