  The Brutalist provided a very interesting deconstruction and loon at the immigrant experience. Laslow is presented as in some ways an ‘ideal immigrant’, he brings skills and knowledge, he learns the language fast, he’s anti-racist and supportive of his fellow working class men.   Really beautiful message being made regarding self-doubt, conviction in your beliefs, and commitment to doing what’s right. 

  Very prudent messages for what I’m sure a lot of people can relate to. Questioning if it’s right to compromise on some of your beliefs to side with ‘the lesser evil’ to try and preserve what you have spent so much time trying to create.

  “I feel fear, cold, alone. Sometimes down there, I even feel hope.’ 

  I really loved this, but couldn’t help but feel it was just the start of something bigger, like I’d only watched the first half of a film. Maybe it was intentional and the intention was to leave it to the viewer to decide what till happen next, but I just wanted more.

  The Haunting 1963

  The haunting of Hill House for me perfectly captures the mindset of an Uber anxious person, who assumes that everything will go wrong and that everyone hates them. The haunting has the difficult task of replicating this feeling in film. It has to pick up the pace due to the translation from novel to film, but absolutely keeps the same themes.
