  1408 is one of my favorites from childhood. I think the practical effects hold up really well, and while his performance constantly verges on corny, John Cusack is extremely fun here. Sam Jackson’s supporting role is suave as always.

  Before X, you would have been hard pressed to convince me that I would see a modern slasher with unique, interesting characters operating within a compelling plot. That was before. I am now in my post-X phase. This movie absolutely kicks ass.

  Not exaggerating this may be the best movie of the year. An absolute treat.

  Okay so I saw Oppenheimer right after which may challenge the top spot, but this was a perfect, fun movie. Margot treated the role with a serious but comical voice that allowed this to be both genuinely sentimental and funny. The script was perfect and Gosling killed. Honestly, just a great experience.

  Edit: Lowering to 4.5 for one reason alone.  Looking back a couple of weeks…
