Escape from New York 1981
I thought this would be a stupid action movie full of 80s machismo
The first half was instead a very interesting surreal suspense piece with great synth music (and 80s machismo)
The second half was a distinctly bad action movie, which music didn’t save and machismo exacerbated
It seems that Carpenter can create suspense like few others, but then can’t properly deliver the pay off
The ending’s funny, but ultimately not worth it
