Definitely a film deserving of every praise for all things visual. I do feel deeply betrayed due to the story though. With almost a three hour runtime, the plot did not develop into anything meaningful. This could of have been David Attenborough's "Animated Animal Planet" and would have made perfect sense. The new plot money making chemical was introduced and used for five minutes and the war between the na'vi/humans did not develop farther than what was introduced a hour…
A fantastic children's movie that was very much a passion project. From the animation, to the villain designs (favorite part), and jokes that can be appreciated by kids and adults - it was all there.
However, especially in the beginning, the liberty DreamWorks had with the animation was choppy (done on purpose but it felt really odd) and just felt nauseating, even though it still looked great. As a kids movie, this definitely does deserve a 5/5.
My personal favorite Miyazaki film and ideal movie in general. A lesser atmosphere of whimsicalness and physics defying adventure compared to other Ghibli films but does so in a way that just captivates with simplicity, legendary animation that Miyazaki is known for, and jabs at post-WW1 misogyny.
This film also does not close or explain all its mysteries - which I am a big fan of. This movie is just a feel good, have a couple of laughs, and engulfed into another world the studio has to offer.
