loved matt damon’s delivery on his inner monologue lines. feel like the first half of this movie was pretty perfect, then it just hurt to watch this man continuing to do the same thing (while still being pretty good though). a top soderbergh movie for sure

my first Kurosawa movie !
felt a little slow at parts due to the repetitive of the stories, and no huge pay off in the end. but the realization of the story being told — made of embellished stories — was definitely fascinating. loved the bandit character and the acting (that laugh!). loved how some of the shots lingered and the way they’d frame the characters

if I would’ve wrote this last night, I would’ve given it a 3.5, but this one keeps burning the more I think about it. Don Logan is an amazing OBNOXIOUS villain, an over the top caricature. the dialog between the happy retired conmen reminds me of Seinfeld meets Sopranos. the tension of the last act once the “one last job” trope is finally and beautifully activated is incredible. Don Logan’s annoyance maybe lasted a little long but the end of the movie was riveting enough to cling on to that more than the first half.
