Serpico 1973
Serpico is an excellent character study if nothing more. It definitely feels much more "generic" than any of Lumet's other works, it feels like any director of his era could have made it, but man, does Al Pacino give a career performance in this thing. The film had me crying for the man because we are with him for every step of his struggle. Definitely worth the watch!

It took two viewings for me to really connect with this film, but it's a great thriller after it all. Robert Mitchum plays one of the scariest villains of the era, and being someone who grew up around self-appointed Protestant preacher types, absolutely believably (I always figured those guys had skeletons in their closets, but perhaps not literally as is the case here).
