Little Women 1994
Easily my favourite film adaptation of this story. It’s a retelling that’s admittedly further towards the year-9-English-essay end of the cinematic experience spectrum than Gerwig’s trendy remake, but is entirely more successful at showing-not-telling. Staying true to Alcott’s original commentary on family and community amid growing class divisions that characterise the formative years of modern-day America, the cast manage to bring their characters independence and dignity with full, rounded interior lives. Winona Ryder, will u marry me?
