I was surprised by how much I really liked this. We are thrown into her life in the moment which makes us emphasize with her rather than sympathizing with a tragic background story. We were never supposed to like Ivan and even them being together, rather we were supposed to understand her motivations in a raw form. Was I convinced she loved him? No, because he was never about love, he was about security. Even shooting the sex scenes, it wasn’t romantic or beautiful. They were shot in a way to disconnect us because it was fleeting, because it was only for right now.
