Idk you just don't think any individual film can be this good or make you feel this much. Til you see this one.
A re-watch every 2-4 years minimum. For when you need this reminder: Heavy ≠ bleak. Heavy ≠ despair.
updating my review: it honestly just blows my mind that we live in a world where people can walk away from a movie like this and because they don't relate / somehow don't have anyone in their life they love / who's perspective on film/stories they value that COULD relate we should still see their "reviews" as equally as important as everyone else's i truly just don't understand this world nothing makes sense here let's abort.
in short, anyone who thinks this movie isn't good "enough" can fuck right off ok!!!!

Wow. Definitely an unforgettable film. Feels so good to see an east asian high school aged girl actually have agency, have sex and deal with the complicated feelings around it, and navigate her race and identity in ways that are never heavy handed. Incredible chemistry between these young actors. What a feat of a first feature.
this movie is probably gonna be unlike anything you've ever watched. it sits comfortably outside of my usual go-to genres, but i am thrilled i caught it at ImagineNative this year. it was so special to see a film this ambitious and thought-provoking told from an Anishinabe point of view. go in with an open mind. worth many many viewings.
