i think i'm just a sucker for a good morality play. gregory peck plays the sort of morally upright lead that i can't really imagine appearing in a western or even any other genre's parable about violence ten years later, especially since the end of the film showing him riding off into the greenery of The Big Country(tm) seems to provide closure by pretty uncritically accepting the idea that he's the 'right' sort of white man to expand westward, but…

Wild at Heart 1990
one of my favourite things about sailor is he does kinda feel like a nerd's idea of what a cool guy is and yet the film backs him up on his coolness! really appreciated the shifting tone this time round; it never stops feeling heightened but there is a noticeable (if subtle?) change in our leads after they encounter the car crash
