What an absolutely beautiful examination of grief, matriarchy/matricide, abuse, the real vs. un-real, and power/will/agency. The things we do to ourselves when we’ve been traumatized. The way trauma opens us up to manipulation from others. For me, this took a “super hero story” and delved into the all-too-unexplored depths of where such strengths & powers come from, how they shape us, and the world around us.
Minus .5 stars for being Pentagon/military propaganda.

The mid-film downbeat was a little odd for me, especially as it was telegraphed by the dialogue leading up to it. I thought the conceit of the dog-napping was curious, and the frame for the story (the screenplay/“7 psychopaths”) was neat. I love episodic storytelling that pulls back to a main thread, revealing the interconnected-ness of the plots, drawing more meaning as the stories are taken together.
