A welcome break from the multiverse, I largely enjoyed this movie. Harrison Ford turns in his best performance in recent memory (I haven’t seen Shrinking), and the rest of the cast were really enjoyable. The score was excellent, and the plot was engaging. I love Sam Wilson’s Captain America. I actually liked The Incredible Hulk so the callbacks in this movie were exciting. My biggest criticism is that the movie is lacking anything that will make it stand out in Marvel’s legacy of films, but that’s okay.
I was honestly going to give it four stars, but there is a scene during the climax that took all of the wind out of the movie. For the most part, Jim Carrey is brilliant as Robotnik (both of them) but the scene in question involves him. I don’t want to spoil anything but you shouldn’t break up “Live and Learn” for a silly gag. It recovered quickly, but it was enough to bring it down some. Overall a great time though, and recommended to fans of Sonic (especially Adventure 2) and anyone with kids.
Entertaining, and Hugh Jackman is better than ever as Wolverine. Unfortunately, once you take away the theater experience and review the movie simply for what it is, it runs into the same problems as most recent Marvel movies. Threadbare plot, convoluted, and mostly insignificant when you consider it with the MCU at large. Fun easter eggs and cameos can only carry a movie so far, and months later, this one has only been worth one rewatch.
