    Nickel Boys

    ★★★★★

RaMell Ross delivers an absolute gut-punch with Nickel Boys, a film as devastating as it is masterfully crafted. The unique first-person cinematography immerses you in Elwood and Jack’s tragic journey, making the injustice they face feel deeply personal. Their contrasting worldviews—one idealistic, the other pragmatic—reflect the brutal reality that so many people of color have endured for generations. The metaphorical imagery, from the lurking alligator to the haunting space shuttle, adds even more depth, becoming even more fascinating upon closer analysis. A harrowing, necessary watch that lingers long after the credits roll.

    Paddington in Peru

    ★★★★

Paddington is still the sweetest little bear in cinema, and this movie keeps the same warmth and charm that made the first two so special. Antonio Banderas? Absolute win. And who doesn’t love Olivia Colman? But I have to admit, I missed the cozy chaos of Paddington in London. Something about the Peruvian jungle setting didn’t hit the same.

    Also, Sally Hawkins’ absence hurt.

As someone who typically doesn’t gravitate toward musicals and felt underwhelmed by the film’s marketing, Wicked was a revelation. This adaptation not only exceeded my expectations but left me eagerly anticipating Part 2.

Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of Elphaba is both powerful and poignant. She masterfully conveys the isolation and pain of being perceived as different, adding depth to the character that resonates deeply. Her vocal performances are nothing short of extraordinary, bringing the musical numbers to life with emotion and…

Man I loved this movie! The movie beautifully depicts the pressures of finding out your purpose in life and the slippery slope that comparing yourself to others can lead to. I loved that this movie was more rooted in reality than some other Ghibli movies I've seen so far as it allowed me to resonate with Shizuku more. Anxiety and self-doubt are significant obstacles in all our lives, and this movie portrays that very well in Shizuku and Seiji. I…
