Life is finding humour in the darkest times.
So much of the film seesaws between hilarity and tragedy that towards the end it’s hard not to laugh with tears while watching two people try to make the best of one of the worst fates that could befall anyone.
Like most prison films especially of this era there is the trope of the femme presenting trans-coded inmate, the film does not play this character’s presentation as a joke. Rewatching this now in 2024 it is oddly refreshing to see a character in this style of comedy played much more sincerely than expected.
