The Substance 2024
Felt like a try hard amateur student film towards the beginning, the over the top camera work and obscure shots were trying to portray a sense of anxiety and paranoia but instead came off overzealous and annoying. Although Demi Moore and Margaret Quelley’s performances were a positive of the film, they were overshadowed by the inconsistent and underwhelming plot that had so much potential. The third movie in the franchise provides a creepy but satisfying final instalment. Mia Goth is really the main standout that prevents this series from falling into a deep sea of mediocre slasher films, she puts her all into all her roles and it is prevalent as ever in this trilogy as she is able to make such a silent and reserved character feel so likeable and rich.
