Stand by Me 1986
did they trust King' story will carry the movie? i can imagine it being engaging on paper, but here for the most part i was debating whether to turn it off or not. it tries to be grand and poetic and yet it somehow ends up naive and boring. there are dynamics and conversations i recognize very well from my own childhood but the longing for the simpler childhood times is not enough to carry it for 90mins. chris phoenix is incredible and his character is the only one thats consistently interesting. all the others just show glimmers of hope in singular scenes
