The Witch 2015
This is one of this awkward moments where this is a high 4 star film, possibly even a 4.5 star, but I had a 2.5-3 star experience.
Intricately crafted, the level of work here is impeccable and I admire and appreciate everything on screen. Just absolutely not for me, despite the subject matter being very much for me. Great film, I did not like it.

Sometimes creative limitations are a good thing.
It is entirely subjective, but for me the quality of Flanagan’s Netflix work has been in release order; the looser the creative oversight, the more exhaustingly indulgent he is prone to get. He is a very personal showrunner, with a fascinating approach to a body of work (the adapted and the adaptee) that often gets lost. This feels like Flanagan’s edgelord Netflix epilogue. A crass farewell for the sake of being crass.
