The Evil Dead 1981
All the horror tropes were there, perhaps it’s one of the sources where all the tropes came from. The characters made stupid decisions. The sexualised scene of the woman getting tied up and raped by a tree was unnecessary, most definitely just fan service. Unclear as to how infection happens because the cause was inconsistent throughout the movie. The screaming was often very long and repetitive. The boyfriend hitting his girlfriend when she was possessed and giggling felt a bit…

Very slow paced. The dialogue felt unnatural and the characters flat. The scene with Asami alone in her apartment with just a phone and a sack was cool though, it was very eerie, creepy, and unsettling. Plenty of sexist comments from characters that I’m not sure were useful for the narrative. Perhaps it’s a cultural byproduct?
The torture scene and Asami getting a burning incense stuffed into her sex was hard to watch, but the removal of the foot seemed skillfully made as it was very explicit and felt very real. Overall I disliked the film though.
