tenderly portrayed familial and national trauma through a smart lens. liked about its quietness (how messages are not spoken aloud as they should not be). felt sad for the mother but somehow it felt right for the film to end as a tragedy for her.

CinemAsia 2024//Based on Malay 513 riot and its literal and verbal accounts. I don't like the way the film is exploited as a tool for racial propaganda. Taking the racial conflict as the foremost/only problem, it turns opera, rituals, Taoism and everything artistic, aesthetic and mystical into mechanics. Or maybe I'm not the supposed audience for it.
