    Holy fuck.

Marriage Story was easily my most anticipated film of the year and it met all of my expectations. Essentially every aspect of this was done perfectly. I don't think I've seen a film be this heartbreaking while also being pretty funny throughout. That alone probably makes this my favorite screenplay of the year.

The pacing in Marriage Story never seemed to drag throughout its runtime. The story feels so complete. It goes beyond what typical movies would go…

I love movies that use different filmmaking techniques to make the audience truly understand how the main character(s) feel. Whether that be with Mommy and its unique aspect ratio or A Single Man and its color saturation. This film uses the main character's medical condition to tell its story.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is about a man with locked-in syndrome. A condition that renders a person completely paralyzed except for eye movements. For the majority of the film,…

Amores Perros is a pretty long movie. But it comes together as a perfectly paced thriller that continually keeps you invested. It starts off with an intense car chase and in the next 150 minutes, you are treated with one amazing scene after another. It quickly became my favorite directorial debut by far.

Amores Perros utilizes its nonlinear structure to the fullest. The film intertwines three stories that slowly reveal how they are all connected. The characters in each story…

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is very weird. It's very messy. It's very all over the place. But I love every second of it. Quentin has made some of my absolute favorite films and this is just another great entry in his catalogue.

People have mostly called this movie boring and criticized its structure. But personally, I love how it lets the viewer hang out with these characters. Rick & Cliff are both so interesting and well-written. Leo & Brad also…

Cléo from 5 to 7 was only Agnès Varda's second feature film that's both delightfully engaging and technically impressive. In this, we follow an evening of Cléo's life as she awaits the results of a possible cancer diagnosis.

The camerawork in Cléo from 5 to 7 stood out to me immediately. There are so many perfect shots throughout the film. I really loved the atmosphere and the way Agnès filmed the city. Her experience as a documentarian felt pretty evident…

This hits harder every time you watch it. Everything was done so perfectly: the music, the acting, the story, the pacing. I don't think there's been a single day that I didn't think about this movie since the day I first saw it. I highly doubt that'll change. For me, Secret Sunshine is easily Lee Chang-dong's masterpiece.
