12 Years a Slave 2013
A film like this comes out once every 10 years, a true rebuttal to the lost cause myth and the ‘states rights’ (to what?) narrative. A great criticism of the Antebellum South, a critique of the Bible’s role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Only wish that Brad Pitt had pitted his notion of the white savior. Steve McQueen clearly had his hand forced here (I don’t have a source for this) but that is totally something Brad Pitt would do!
