Nosferatu 2024
Vampires have evolved over the past century. I indulge in the romance of True Blood, Vampire Diaries, IWTV, Twilight, and more comedic takes like Buffy and WWDITS. The toxic, push-and-pull dynamics of these relationships - the allure and the denial - are compelling. A guilty fantasy.
Eggers brings us back to the genre's roots. This Nosferatu is a shadow of dread and despair, inflicting a relentless and devastating affliction upon its victims. There is no love in its mental and physical assault - it is an all-consuming plague. Ellen's romance is a tragedy that lies elsewhere.
We are humbly reminded.

Saltburn 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Saltburn starts strong but loses tempo as Oliver's complexity, emotions, and intentions are simplified, opting for elementary flashbacks and in-your-face explanations. Audience interpretation and mystery are neglected. Brevity over depth, no wonder TikTok ate this shit up.
Did enjoy the performances, esp from Archie Madekwe (Farleigh). Excited to see more from him.

I Saw the Devil 2010
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Stopped watching after the opening scene. Consumed enough mediums of horror in my life to be so over creators pushing out borderline exploitation films in the name of storytelling.
Oh no, a lovely wife brutalized by a serial killer. Now a full-body nude scene, let’s zoom in on the right boob! Because of course this is important. Close up shot of her face? She’s totally gonna say “I’m pregnant” — oh, yup. There we go. I’ll bet 100$ there’s going to…
