Ponman is a riot. Right from the start, the film spins through three characters, and with each POV shift, the story gains more depth. Brilliantly crafted, it keeps things engaging while adding layers to the narrative. We need this kind of ‘hero’ in mainstream cinema.. fresh, unconventional, and entertaining while still bringing something new to the table.

Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal 2024
The film does its job as intended, with perfect casting that fits the narrative well. However, the story feels too simple for a full length movie. What stood out for me were its calm, measured approach and the execution, which deviates from typical Indian storytelling (Manjadikuru is good example for this loudness) conventions in an interesting way. But this tried to sound like Japanese dysfunctional family films.
We still have a long way to go to reach Kore-eda’s level or finding a new style to tell family stories.

Still Walking 2008
Nothing ‘suddenly’ happens in this film, but the way it’s told creates such an impact. Such a relatable and reliable portrayal of a family in which old and new values collide, and all just behave as human as possible. Taking three generations into account, this bittersweet portrayal depicts what happens when a family gets together. Memories kindled, venom drawn by each other. Questions asked.

The Crossing 1984
"We ran to save our lives, leaving our village, parents, everything. We don't know who is alive who is not; Is this any life? Driven like a wild swine scuttling around. In order to save our lives? Shame!"
Another strong film on Feudalism and how it suppressed Dalit communities. Almost all themes are same in parallel cinemas of India. Only Culture and landscape are different. Sufferings are same.
