Yasujirô Ozu: Tatami Tales #2
Ozu’s opus is centered in a post-war setting that revolves around the changing lifestyle in Japan that heavily affects the grandparents of the family, in a time where the importance of career and succes has increased but family decreased. The joyful hope of flavoring green tea over rice has been replaced with a melancholy, bitter view towards the future. Ozu still lays the righteous path for the viewers that is necessary in this day of age.

Yasujirô Ozu: Tatami Tales #1
A small but beautiful tale about accepting the love that was demanded onto you years ago. For most of the film, I struggled with Ozu’s opinion about arranged marriages, but it becomes clear in the final scene that he had an optimistic view of the future for women in Japan. Every woman deserves the freedom to choose their own partner in life, and shouldn’t settle just for wealth.
