"The Penguin" doesn't only understand its source material, it used it alongside the strengths of TV as a medium to create the best interpretation of the character to date.
The limited nature of the series delivered the perfect length for a gut wrenching character analysis disguised as a crime drama.
Although expertly shot and stunning to stare at, theres little more to enjoy beyond the pretty packaging. A massively disappointing payoff to what id otherwise consider a decent set up leaves a confusing taste in my mouth.

A sampler of Lanthimos' best qualities, this anthology is engaging enough to substantiate the 3 hour runtime and, if anything, leave you wishing for more.
Complimented by what I can only call deceivingly subtle acting flexes, the performances by Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons elevate this project from a stilted anthology of weird stories to a grounded yet fantastical compilation of stories and characters that exist just beneath the limits of absurdity.
Yorgos Lanthimos raises lots of questions, answers most but leaves just enough ambiguity to leave you thinking about it afterwards, all while somehow avoiding the sometimes confusing pitfalls of abstraction.
A roadtrip movie exploring what an anarchic America would look like, Civil War cleverly avoids coming across as "preachy" by merely showing the logical conclusion of current American culture. All while still delivering a solidly entertaining movie.
A tense, thrilling ride, the very conscious decisions in the cinematography and sound create a realistically haunting depiction of what such a conflict might really look like.
