Pure Sodie. Slick, sexy, snappy. Very good score from Holmes.

Mickey 17 2025
Bit of a snoozer. Really interesting to me how this one doesn’t fizzle out or lose its way, but rather never once gets going. Lethargic from the first scene and a mess throughout. Seldom even amusing and any pathos that lingers thematically, in theory (Mickeys childhood trauma and personal development in the throes of dehumanising capitalism and fascistic colonisation), falls completely flat in practice. Pattinsons pretty good, I guess.

Bend of the River 1952
Apples and men, maybe there is a difference. My first of the collection of Stewart-Mann western collaborations. Some lovely Technicolor natural locations (the moments with the snowy mountain in the background and the trees in the foreground felt like a Bob Ross painting come to life) and an investing story of greed, friendship and man’s ability to change. Jimmy Stewart will always hold your attention while on screen, Kennedy plays a good villain and Rock Hudson is always a nice presence, I’m actually growing quite the affinity for westerns.
