Giamatti is as expected, which is to say grumpy and great, but this came off to me as a standard, made-for-Oscars, slice-of-life flick. Inside Llewyn Davis 2013
A 3.5/5 (or 8/10 on the more generous 10-point scale), well-made but unremarkable Coen Bros movie, just like the rest of them. I swear to God, I threw this on not knowing who made it, and in the middle I thought, "Hmm, this is pleasant enough and competently made, but I don't care about anything this movie is doing or trying to say to me.
