Sideways 2004
A remarkably unremarkable film, with unlikeable characters and a story that’s unrelatable in today’s political/economic climate. Even its smooth jazz soundtrack comes off as if it was made by aliens tasked with replicating the ideal human experience without trying too hard.
That said, the movie has its charms. Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Chirch are perfectly—PERFECTLY—cast, there’s some good jokes in there, and the aforementioned soundtrack is perfectly-suited for these two genuine shitheads traipsing around California wine country.

This movie is inclusive and has a positive message, so I can’t necessarily say it’s bad, or even mediocre. But I was NOT the intended audience for this. If I saw this in a movie theater I don’t know what I would do. Could you imagine not being into this 2 1/2 hour long movie made entirely out of cgi while a bunch of theater kids around you are just losing their shit and singing the entire thing around you……

I usually don’t like this phrase… but, truly, what the fuck did I just watch? Other than an example of animation unleashing its full potential? Shinya Ohira seems to channel both Katamari Damacy and David Lynch in this… and let it be noted: I believe very few people do “dream logic” well. This is 15 minutes. Watch it.
