  “Unflinching” is such an overused, trite review word, but it’s hard to find one more apt to describe the meticulous manner in which this documentary captures a grueling struggle against unimaginable cruelty. Best film of 2024. Never seen anything like it.

  What if you did Perfect Blue, but watered-down?

  "Not really, there are similarities between the films, but it wasn’t influenced by it"—Darren Aronofsky, 2011, lying through his teeth. Come on. “Influenced” would be the generous term for the amount—ideas, shots, scenes—this movie rips from Perfect Blue. 

  Plagiarism aside, this movie is what a younger me initially took away from Perfect Blue. The violence, the crazy transitions, the surrealness . . . In other words, Black Swan is only capable of tackling…
