I’m trying to separate the movie and the end. The first one is all lights, colors, atmosphere that made an exception in my strong dislike of musicals. And the last echoes in my head as a question: why the right option always remains just a delusion.

Road-movie that does everything it can to avoid being one.
Tbh not everything remains clear (e.g. timeline, odd, requires separate discussion). But maybe it doesn't matter as long as you are so deep in watching the tragic story of a woman who truly and blindly believes (or even denies the obvious) and a guy who seems to be perfect example of avoidance.
