The Duke of Burgundy 2014
Despite the fact it's erotic, there is no nudity in this film. I assume this omission was intentional, and I think it makes for a better film (Cynthia and Evelyn's dom/sub relationship is a microcosm of their romantic relationship, not necessarily a device to titillate viewers).

Curiosa 2019
For a film about sex, Curiosa wasn't all that sexy. Noémie Merlant is a wonderful actress, but this film doesn't do her justice. Marie is the film's most compelling character, but she is written with little depth. Because the characters are one-dimensional, the intended chemistry and sexual tension falls flat. Marie loves Pierre, but why?
I was surprised to discover a woman directed Curiosa, as the film focuses primarily on Pierre's desires. In spite of her sexual awakening, Marie does not seem autonomous.
I will say, the unusual music worked for me.
