An important film, yes, but oh so racist and disturbing. Good if you’re studying film, but for a Saturday night with a friend and some popcorn? Do yourself a favor and pick something else.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. If you want another scathing indictment towards the inept world of banking, regulation, politics, corruption and greed may I recommend the book Griftopia by Matt Taibbi. A great companion piece.

What a stupid movie. Were people really like this in 1958? And why do they show both married couples in separate beds? Was this a mandate of Hollywood at the time? If so, how stupid, considering the rest of the movie is all about getting a woman pregnant while being blackout drunk. And the men won't even pick up a baby! They scream for a woman to come help, letting the baby cry the whole time. If you want to see a great example of how stupid movies could be in the 50s, then watch this, otherwise don't waste your time.

I must admit, I like Buster Keaton more than Charlie Chaplin. In the General at least, his stunts are so well choreographed and executed. They're both funny and exciting at the same time. He does stunts that star actors wouldn't do themselves these days as they'd be deemed too dangerous. Buster is a master of slapstick physical comedy and it's too bad his movies don't get shown more today, because I think a younger audience would really enjoy and appreciate his art.
