Ghost in the Shell 1995
Not nearly as convoluted as the Internet led me to believe but still pretty damn convoluted. One of those where the minute it ended I knew I'd have to watch it again eventually. I'm not usually the type to get upset about nudity in movies but having your female main character be completely naked for almost the entire runtime of the movie seems a little gratuitous. I have a feeling this script underwent many impromptu rewrites. There are so many things that are set up and never paid off. The movie is very good but it just felt so obvious. I expected more from Bong Joon Ho. It's definitely more creative than a lot of other movies coming out but compared to his other stuff it felt very trite. I think this movie's saving grace is it's goofy tone. If it tried to take itself as seriously as parasite or snowpiercer I probably would've hated it.
