  after watching this, i think i get the new wes anderson hate. no doubt the newer stuff has some beautiful, picture perfect moments, but it feels a bit “hat on a hat” if the royal tenenbaums is of his earlier work. i believe a few people would consider anderson an auteur or even a stylist(?) (one of the outer circles of this auteurist theory thing), but jesus christ, this film had the right amount of stylization and story (which some may argue is not the point of film. looking at you spectacle) without the stylization getting in the way of the storytelling. what a joy.
