Awesome concept with lots of potential for great body horror. Terribly underwritten and clearly made on a budget, which is forgivable for a campy festival movie. However the egregious use of generative AI to create nauseatingly endless fantasy scenes was really terrible. I've never wanted to throw up in a cinema so much since seeing Raw (2016). But here, it was not a good thing. It's just lazy filmmaking to use generative AI and no one should do it. This is the hill I will die on.

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
Incredibly cool concept bogged down by unforgivably glacial pacing. Midway through the film an important conversation by the two main characters is both preceded and followed by full-length stage performances in a punk bar; incomprehensible choice.
Edit: coming back to this review to bump it up to 3 stars because this movie simply won't leave my brain. The horror of living an unsatisfying life knowing you never chose to be who you really were meant to be is absolutely bone-chilling. I just wish the movie had gotten to the point faster with some more economic editing and story-telling.

That being said, this movie squanders its potential. It's beautifully shot on location and charmingly attempts to paint its Dutch soldier characters as morally complex. But its morally upstanding main character is a snoozefest (seriously, so boring - Martijn Lakemeijer…
