Fun genre movie. Mark Ruffalo is clearly doing a Trump impersonation, even his supporters wore red hats. No need to overthink it, but I will anyways bc I took a class in college called “Science-Fiction as Social Criticism” so the critique of society I see from this one are:
-Capitalism doesn’t care if you lose your life in service of it.
-Our leaders are self obsessed buffoons who also do not care about your life

The Brutalist 2024
Cinematography and score were fantastic. The horns that play throughout the movie give it a real sense of epic scale, but I was left a bit disappointed. It’s really not about architecture which was a bummer to me at least and what it is about instead is a bit all over the place until a rather unsubtle act that works as a metaphor for how American society uses us. I respect Brady Corbett for taking a big swing here but…

Fun story about the perils of simply searching for the next paycheck/thrill. That mindset means reality is always lurking around the next corner. The aristocracy will never accept you into their world no matter how bad you want to believe they will. Great performance by Mikey Madison. Sean Baker is a weirdo for not hiring an intimacy coordinator though.

Some definite movie magic recreating naval battles in the colosseum, Denzel is dishing at a ridiculous level; but certainly not the same soul as the first one. I like Paul Mescal but maybe he is just a phenomenal actor but not a “movie star”, from the beginning his characters voice just doesn’t sound like him. Maybe I’ve just seen him too often as the sad guy that he isn’t believable as the prince of Rome.
