    Even when the plot twist is revealed, the mystery still seems to persist. This film’s eerie ambience kept me hooked and I love how Scorsese essentially divides the plot in two. The parallels to the CIA’s MK Ultra experiments somehow keeps this film grounded in reality. Nothing is too far fetched.

    I appreciate this film’s stylistic choice. It stays true to portraying addiction in a way that’s all-consuming and entirely self-deprecating. Coupled with a nasty early-2000s grunge aesthetic, I don’t see how anyone can ever watch game shows or do drugs after watching that. Nothing about the film was visually appealing but it still managed to glue me to the screen. I really hope Jared Leto didn’t move drugs but he probably did for this role. 

    Don’t do drugs kids.
