if there's a mirror/reflection shot it gets an extra half star
watched this again when Big Walter D+ recommended it to me. realizing how watching dozens of above average films in one week changed the way I judged them. I still think the quality of the film has high highs but also discordantly low lows. I'm not sure if my initial 7/10 rating was right or wrong but there's a lot in this I didn't pick up on the first time.
I expected something more like Hot Summer Nights or Uncut Gems, not a convoluted pormo about class struggle. The last scene really lost me, I wish they ended it with leaving the mansion. Mikey Madison and Yuriy Borisov carry this one. After the halfway mark, any scene without both of them felt like a waste of my time.
what a gamer. bro got the whole squad crying off mute.
biopics are sure a lot more compelling when they're about people who are undercelebrated. I think if this came out 5 years ago it'd quickly become critically acclaimed. hopefully by the time this sees distribution, the distaste from the recent swell in trash, money grabbing biopics will be out of our palate.
good storytelling with clean visuals where neither over feeds you.
