WTF was going on with Nicole Kidman’s accent??? After the first day of filming the director should have scrapped the whole Australian backstory and just had her talk in her normal breathy ooze. Efron was legit funny in a couple of scenes. Sort of meta how much they made fun of big budget slop when this was big budget slop at its finest.

It’s not often a story as compelling as this gets acting and directing that can do it justice. From start to finish a masterpiece.
The closer shots in the beginning make you feel like you are part of this warm ambience of the family. The insular world of kids running back and forth from the beach punctuated by parties where adults and children alike joke and enjoy themselves pulls you in.
