  What separates this from all the other “dramatic Sandlers” is that it follows all the conventions of an Adam Sandler movie. He plays a stunted man with an explosive personality, who despite having (varying degrees of) social abnormalities, is undeniably charming; and through the power of falling in love, sets himself straight. While Uncut Gems is a masterpiece, Sandler is meeting the Safdies in their world and brings his talents with him. Here, PTA is the one meeting Sandler halfway. PTA may have contemporaries in his generation, but none of them could do auteur Billy Madison. 

Following
