Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) 2014
This was the best movie that I have seen this year. Michael Keaton and Emma Stone performed better than they ever have; Keaton will likely win best actor at the next academy awards and I believe Stone will win best supporting actress. Ed Norton will likely be nominated for supporting actor. Emmanuel Lubezki, the cinematographer, has proved yet again that he is in his own class. Nightcrawler 2014
First of all, this is Dan Gilroy's best film. By far. Jake Gyllenhaal has shined before, but not like this; this was a career defining moment. If he does not receive at least a nomination for best actor I would be shocked. Obviously a satire dealing with American media and their fear mongering tactics, but not so pushy that it ruined the drama. A truly enjoyable film and one of the year's best.

This truly is a great movie.

Movies like this push the bounds of filmmaking in numerous ways; especially cinematographically. It was the most beautifully shot film I have seen since The Tree of Life, which is no coincidence seeing as how they both had the same cinematographer. I feel extremely lucky to have experienced such a film. It will…
