  Just couldn't really get into it...everything got to be a bit tedious, even Mark Ruffalo's hybrid Trump-Brando-Wayne Newton impression that I initially loved. Definitely had its moments, but not enough to justify revisiting it in the future.

  Despite my misgivings about George Lucas constantly tweaking/CGI-ing up his older films (I saw the 2004 director's cut), the cinematography and world-building here is pretty stellar. I went in with pretty modest expectations and this far exceeded them. I know it's kind of a grab bag of other older scifi dystopias, but it seems pretty influential in its own right.

  My main issue here was the pacing and length, it's definitely a product of its time. That's at least partially offset by some very memorable scenes (the Greek wedding being my favorite), with Quinn and Niven being the clear MVPs. And obviously it's influence is pretty huge: Star Wars, Bond, the A-Team, heist movies, and Tarantino just to name a few.

  Besides the reality show/surveillance state commentary, the existential themes of being trapped in a stagnant life and "settling for" a mundane, mediocre existence (and breaking out of it) are pretty much timeless.

  This and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are all the bonafides Jim Carrey needs.
