Ostensibly a movie about America's refusal to confront itself, whether in the form of the 'ape civilisation' created in its image, or the last vestiges of 'humanity' hiding underground and quite literally worshipping an atomic bomb. A subtle movie it isn't but strident, searing in its own way.
