A fun tongue in cheek Horror/Comedy. If you've ever watched a bunch of "20 something year olds spend a weekend in an abandoned house in the woods " horror movie, you will appreciate the clever twists on the genre tropes.
The acting is solid all around, with Zach Ruchkin (as Zach) a standout performance.
I read at least 50 reviews of this movie on Letterboxd expecting SOMEONE to mention the fact that the older J.R looks absolutely nothing like the younger JR. The younger has dark brown eyes (almost black) and very dark straight hair. Tye Sheridan has light blue eyes and wavy light brown hair.Plenty of chat about how the second half didn't work etc etc. Well one of the main reasons it didn't work is there is no visual connection between the two actors. How lazy George. Continuity matters!
Truth be told I could probably watch Olivia Coleman make jello and be completely mesmerized. So watching her play the layered, multi faceted role of Leda was a joy. Not to say that this was a joyful movie, not at all. We watch as Leda, a middle aged professor of literature on vacation in Greece, becomes increasingly haunted by decisions she has made in the past. All revolving around motherhood, and most of it very uncomfortable to watch.
