No Sympathy for the Devil 1997
Me and a friend were really excited to watch this for our next movie night because it looked and sounded great (we somehow came across it while looking for somewhere to watch Gia). Instead, it was just exploitative and deeply uncomfortable to watch. The male gaze is the driving force behind everything here, and it fucking sucks. On a technical level, it looks great, nails noir aesthetics perfectly, but the editing is kinda messy and choppy at points in a way that is distracting and just does not work. Just very disappointed. I'm glad we watched Dancer in the Dark afterwards as a good palate cleanser.

No complicated thoughts this time, for your benefit I guess. Every time I watch a Wong Kar-wai film it is always at the perfect time for me. This rewatch was no exception. Fucking Christ, this film is great but ooooooooooooooooogh.
