Inspired by the ‘Satanic Panic’ in 1980s America, Longlegs is a film which emphasises the simplicity of what makes horror films great. A broken protagonist, a broody atmosphere and an exceptional monster.
My only criticism is that the writers shouldn’t have felt they had to tie the narrative to their protagonist’s lineage. Why does everyone always have to be related?
“Mr Anderson thinks everything inside of him is worthless and embarrassing. Isn’t that right Todd? Isn’t that your worst fear? Well, I think you’re wrong. I think you have something inside of you that is worth a great deal”
Of what value is encouragement? How much of one’s strength is owed to others? Is it possible for someone who is very briefly in your life, to change you forever?

What makes the Incredibles so great? The premise alone is stimulating - A family of retired superheroes is dragged back into the fold when a cunning and deceptive foe emerges from the fog. But the Incredibles isn’t that. I think the most special thing about the Incredibles is its family narrative.
The McCarthyism and post-cold war elements are cool, and so are the seasoning of spy and superhero tropes, but the depth of the film comes from the family dynamic.…
Give the first act some time because it’s really that good.
However it doesn’t shove the quality’s that make it great in your face, you have to look for them
