Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

    ★★½

I don't really know why this one gets so much hate, at least in comparison to other Friday the 13th movies.

The biggest flaw is, of course, that most of the movie takes place on a boat with only the final portion happening in New York. Even once they get to New York, it's really just Jason chasing around the survivors from the boat through alleys and subways, only killing a few extra people aside from the main characters.

    Seed of Chucky

    ★★★

Simultaneously the deepest movie in the series while also being the most crass.

Not really a horror movie at all, barring a few mild jumpscares. It's more of a family drama mixed with a black comedy as Chucky and his family try to get along at the expense of others.

    Ultraman: The Next

    ★★½

A self-contained Ultraman story that has some endearingly cheesy rubber suits and bad CGI. If you can find it and you're not already into Ultraman, it wouldn't be a bad introduction to what the show is about.

Weirdly enough, I actually don't this works that well for existing fans of the show. The only thing it offers over just watching an episode of the show is higher production values and a longer run time, but the show tends to use more rubber suits and less PS2 era CGI.

    Halloween Kills

    ★½

Halloween Kills is the most utterly pointless movie I have ever watched. It's completely enslaved to nostalgia and its own legacy, while contributing nothing meaningful to the story. It's a movie that exists because studio executives mandated a Halloween trilogy and I guess a trilogy has to have a second movie.

I regret having spent money on a Peacock subscription in order to watch it and contributing to this ongoing problem of Hollywood studios mining IPs for money instead of…
