  Wholesome, cameos, and comical villainous mischief is found abundantly in this film. It definitely is catered to a youthful, family audience and delivers that well but there was an aspect that was persistent in the back of my mind. The depiction of younger Gru lacks character development. Besides having a non-attentive mother, the audience is unaware of why he admires villainy and automatically presents himself to be different and edgy compared to his peers. It just missed some gaps behind why he is the way he is.
